RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND OF NEPAL

The Himalayan kingdom of Nepal with its characteristically uneven topographical features is situated in between india on the south and tibet on the north.
Naturally, it is a veritable reservoir of religious currents flowing from both of her neighbours. However,
Nepal assimilated these currents and transformed them into something which became typically Nepalese.
The result was that they all got blended with her cultural pattern. The noted schoolar Deva aptly writes that the cultural synthesis is reflected in all spheres of
Nepalese life and thought including her religious beliefs, social institutions and practices and her art, architecture and iconography. The major part of the country is of high mountains and rolling hills. Altitude varies from 152 meters above the sea level in the Terai in the south to 8848 meters in the north Himalayas.Nepal's northern boundary merges with the Tibet Autonomous region of the People's Republic of China.
