Hinduism as it evolved is a blending of the original religious of the Aryan invaders, Vedism, and the many religions of the indigenous people. The indigenous people were probably mostly Dravidians.

RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE

Nepal, the world's only officially Hindu state where 86 per cent of the population is Hindu, has experienced little of the inter-religious violence that has scarred neighbouring India. Muslims account for around four percent of the 27 million population

SOME FEATURE OF HINDUISM

The principle of Varnasrama Dharma is one of the basic principles of Hinduism. The Varnasrama system is peculiar to Hindus. It is a characteristic feature of Hinduism. It is also prevalent throughout the world according to Guna-Karma (aptitude and conduct), though there is no such distinct denomination of this kind, elsewhere.

HINDU PHILOSOPHIES

The term “Hindu philosophy” is often used loosely in this philosophical or doctrinal sense, but this usage is misleading. In recent times, Hindu philosophy evolved into what some scholars call “Neo-Hinduism,” which can be understood as an Indian response to the perceived sectarianism and scientism of the West.Hindu texts of primary and secondary religious importance, but also the systematic philosophies of the Hindu schools

IMPORTANT ETHNIC GROUPS OF NEPAL AND THEIR RELIGIOUS

Nepal is a mosaic of several ethnic groups which find parallel only with the variegsted
topography of the country. There are 35 different ethnic groups differentisted on the basis of dialects, locale, costume, religion
and other subtle factors. People can be divided into tow distinct groups. Indo-Aryan or Caucasoid and Tibeto-Burman or Mongoloid. The other is Dumze celebrated in the local monastery for a week during the month of July. The worship of Guru Rimpoche, Phawa Cheresi, other important deities is guided by the village lama. They have some physical features of their past Mongolian heritage. Their main living territories stretch from (but are not limited to) the Gorkha area in the east across Lamjung and Manang districts, and beyond.
Brahmans and Chhetris who are of Indo-Aryan stock live in the south of the country.Sherpas and Tamanga who are of Mongoloid or Tibetan stock live mostly in the north of the country.

INTER-INFLUENCES OF VARIOUS RELIGIONS IN NEPAL

Nepal is a country cradled in the southern slopes of the Himalayas with an enchanting variety of topographical features which are responsible for its unique cultural
and religious enviroments. As already said before, the Teraiis bounded on the north by the gentle ridges of the Siwaliks or Churis ranges followed by the higher Mahabharat hills.
Beyond this area, there is the lush green valley of Kathmandu which is the center of Nepalese culture. All among the north side of the Kathmandu Valley the vast panorama of anow-covered Himalayan ranges
stands in full view. Nepal is thus nestled in the lap of the Himalayas between India and Tibet.Historians describe the long prevailing religious practice of Hinduism and Buddhism in Nepal as a good example of religious tolerance and harmony existing between the Hindus and the Buddhists in the country.
Old age, disease and death made the founder of Buddhist religion and philosophy, Gautama Buddha, realize the sheer hollowness of wordly pleasure.

RELIGIOUS BACKGROUND OF NEPAL

The Himalayan kingdom of Nepal with its characteristically uneven topographical features is situated in between india on the south and tibet on the north.
Naturally, it is a veritable reservoir of religious currents flowing from both of her neighbours. However,
Nepal assimilated these currents and transformed them into something which became typically Nepalese.
The result was that they all got blended with her cultural pattern. The noted schoolar Deva aptly writes that the cultural synthesis is reflected in all spheres of
Nepalese life and thought including her religious beliefs, social institutions and practices and her art, architecture and iconography. The major part of the country is of high mountains and rolling hills. Altitude varies from 152 meters above the sea level in the Terai in the south to 8848 meters in the north Himalayas.Nepal's northern boundary merges with the Tibet Autonomous region of the People's Republic of China.
